KC Mattress City has been a family, veteran, locally owned and operated sleep shop for over 35 years, serving the Kansas City metropolitan area.
KC Mattress City was founded by brothers-in-law John Strickler and Pascal Mascaux in the fall of 1988. They had the dream of providing Kansas City with the most welcoming and efficient sleep shops that focused on the consumers' needs. They believed in building a brand that would be a staple in the community and always deliver that “welcome home’ environment. They wanted folks to be able to visit the store and not be greeted with a pushy sales staff. They created a welcoming, laid back, family, and zero-pressure shopping experience. The mission was to allow customers to take their time trying different feels and comforts to form the best decision possible. They also wanted as many brands and options as possible for the community to have the opportunity to experience everything on the market. They believed in crafting a sleep shop that treats everyone like family and be Kansas City's number one bedding destination.
KC Mattress City is a prime example of a family business, John's sister and Pascal's wife, Anne has been integral since the beginning. She has been the accountant, bookkeeper, secretary, and nucleus of the company since day one. John’s daughter, Lauren grew up working in the business which instilled a strong work ethic at an early age before pursuing a career in the medical field. Anne and Pascal's sons, Paul and Henry, have grown up in the business, working every position the company has to offer, from unloading trucks, checking inventory in the warehouse, performing deliveries, and working the sales floor. They have learned the ins and outs of this business their entire lives.
John Strickler retired in 2019 after over 40 years in the mattress industry and 33 years of operating KC Mattress City with Pascal. He built a business that is much more than a place where you can find a mattress, but a place that truly cares about your well-being and wishes to serve you the best experience possible. Our director of logistics, Aaron has been with us for 30 years, ensuring that we have the best customer service and elite efficiency during deliveries. Aaron and his right-hand man, Mike go above and beyond the call of their job to ensure that your product arrives at your door with care. They happily help adjust furniture or remove items with a smile on their faces.
Our store manager, Paul Kizman has been with us for 20 years, and sets the standard for how to treat others. He is our version of “Mr. Rogers” and he happily welcomes every single person who comes through our doors with compassion and professionalism. The combined knowledge of mattresses and experience in the bedding industry is beyond the palpable. Pascal, John, Paul Kizman, and Aaron have forgotten more about mattresses than any other box store sales team knows about the topic. KC Mattress City has had many employees over the decades, and they continue to be dear friends to this day. The majority of our staff that have left to pursue other careers have become leaders in their specific industries. That all stems from the family atmosphere and incredible training that has been woven in the company's culture.
Pascal and Anne’s eldest son, Paul Mascaux, after 8 years in the Army, is filling the role of his Uncle John as Co-Owner/COO of the company. Paul will ensure the quality and service will be met and improved from the elite standard set by his Uncle John. Pascal's second son, Henry “Hank” Mascaux has come back into the business as Co-Owner/CEO after his service with 1st Ranger Battalion, 75th Regiment. He will use the lessons he learned through blood, sweat, and extreme adversity as a US Army Ranger to continue to improve the family business. We look forward to providing Kansas City the most comfortable, welcoming, friendly, and transparent shopping experience possible. Staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgable in selecting a new mattress! I explained what I was looking for, they guided me to several options throughout the store and then allowed me take my time laying on each one checking in and answering any questions I had along the way. They happened to have the mattress I wanted in stock and delivered it within a few hours! If you are in need of a new mattress highly recommend coming here over a big box store!

We went to investigate a split king adjustable bed. Paul K was the gentleman wh welcomed to us to the store. He then proceeded to discuss the pros and cons of different mfgs. He took us around sun allowed us to lay on many different mattresses to find one that we liked. I think he enjoyed showing us the different models and he answered all our questions. He also wasn’t trying to sell us a particular brand; he was showing us the different models and letting us make up our own minds. I would definitely recommend this business to family and friends.
SHOP HERE! This place is great! I don’t know why you would want to buy a mattress anyplace else. Paul and the rest of the guys are very friendly and helpful. You can even try your mattress out for 30 days and if you don’t like it come back and try another. They have great selection and I guarantee you will be treated well. They sure took care of me!

By far the BEST customer service I’ve ever experienced. When my mattress didn’t arrive on time from the distributor, the team immediately arranged for a “loaner” mattress to be delivered so I wouldn’t be left hanging. When the timeline was pushed again, they stayed in constant communication—and instead of making me wait for the next shipment, they personally picked up the mattress themselves and delivered it the very next day. As a thoughtful gesture of apology, they even threw in complimentary sheets and pillows. Everyone I interacted with was incredibly friendly, personable, and genuinely cared about making the experience stress-free. Plus, the showroom is welcoming—with complimentary drinks and a gaming corner to keep kids entertained while you shop. Truly above and beyond in every way.
I can’t recommend enough!!! I live across the country from Kansas City but I was recommended this business for buying a mattress through mutual friends. Henry was incredibly helpful, recommended mattresses based on my unique preferences, shipped the product the same day I ordered, and it arrived on my doorstep in less than a week. I cant even begin to say enough good things about this place. I found a mattress easy, they answered all my questions. Delivery is free and they hauled away my old mattress! They had told me they had my mattress in stock and realized that they didn't. So on delivery day they brought the floor stock mattress to my house to sleep on until I can get my new one and threw in a brand new bed protector. My bf had mentioned he was in the military when he saw a ruck sack in the store and they also gave him the ruck sack because my mattress wasn't available and they truly wanted to make it up to me. They had all kinds of cool military things in the store. Also, they give discounts for veterans and nurses :) This company is truly incredible. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me!! Will definitely buy from them when I need another mattress!! PS my mattress is incredible, my body hasn't felt this good in months! I love that they have selections from Midwestern companies including mattresses that come from Iowa and Oklahoma
Buying a mattress is a BIG decision because it's going to affect your sleep and well being for the next several years. When our mattress was delayed Hank reached out to us directly to rectify the situation. He was genuine and had amazing communication. We were perfectly fine waiting but he just went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. You truly can’t match this level of customer service many other places. It also didn’t stop with Hank. The delivery was phenomenal. The gentlemen were so kind as to move our old mattress to our downstairs for us, gave us helpful hints on how to put sheets on our split king, and were truly just the most pleasant people. The bed we got is great. But truly, it’s the service you get here is what makes Mattress City a must stop at shop for all your mattress needs!
I had the BEST experience with KC Mattress City. Paul greeted me at the door and answered all my questions and he is very knowledgeable . Paul and Henry helped at checkout time with my new Talliston Hybrid BedTech adjustable bed. Mike and Aaron, very personable guys that did a great job delivering and setting up the bed. They even took away all the wrapping material. I’m sleeping better now in my new bed and with my Night Ice 3.0 pillow.
Recently moved into a house in the Brookside area of KC and one of the surprises of a 90 year old home was that the queen box spring wouldn’t fit up the stairs and I was left with an older queen sleigh bed without slats to support a mattress. I called KC Mattress and the very kind gentleman quickly found a solution, an X Platform that would easily solve my problem. He was right. It was easily delivered upstairs, unfolded and installed within the frame of the bed in under 5 minutes: sturdy and easily supporting the mattress. The added support is noticeable over the box spring. After days of searching for answers on the internet that ranged wildly in options and price, KC Mattress City solved my problem easily with a great price. And, the two gentleman who delivered the product were excellent, professional and very kind. I told them I would probably be in the market soon for a new mattress and they told me about all the options aI had and welcomed me come try them out. Excellent selection and impeccable customer service. Hank was straightforward with answering any questions we had and fair in prices, no sales gimmicks whatsoever! We went with the crème de la crème, a 12.5” all latex and have zero regrets. This was a creation of Hank’s and it was worth every penny. No longer waking up with neck or hip pain, thank goodness!
